Jim Karam - President

Mr. Karam has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Ohio University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.

After a career as a Technical Documentation Specialist at AT&T/Bell Labs, he founded Syrus Restaurant Information Services in 1996.

Mr. Karam’s duties include:

  • Defines strategic objectives and oversees execution
  • Leads the integration of services in all departments including Research and Development, IT, Operations, and Sales

Pat Maks – Vice President Business Development

Mr. Maks has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration from Creighton University.

Mr. Maks has more than two decades of senior level restaurant management experience in Corporate and Franchise organizations before joining Syrus, Ltd. in 2000.

Mr. Maks leads the effort of providing consultative services for new and existing customers helping to translate Syrus’ information into improved operations and higher margins for their customers. He also provides oversight for the Syrus operations team ensuring outstanding customer service is delivered to all Syrus customers.

Mr. Maks’ duties include:

  • Assures customers achieve ROI through an ongoing system of support in oversight, analysis of information, training, and sharing of best practices
  • Provides scalability and consistency of service and raises the quality of customer service by establishing systems of training, process control, and performance measurement within the Operations department

Ben Mills – Chief Technologist

Mr. Mills joined Syrus in 2001. Mr. Mills has over 15 years of industry experience and has worked for several Fortune 100 and 500 companies, most recently with The Limited, Inc. in their Store Systems division.

Mr. Mills has several industry certifications including the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and is a member of the Association for Computer Machinery.

Mr. Mills' duties include:

  • Defines and oversees development of system architecture and platform
  • Establishes and maintains process controls for development, testing, deployment, and support of software applications
